Douglas Keeve's witty, energetic 1995 documentary about his then-lover, fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, begins with Mizrahi reading mixed reviews of his 1993 show of new outfits and then follows him for the next year as Mizrahi seeks inspiration for his next public showcase. Sardonic, witty, and immensely likable, Mizrahi sets about finding his new muse, which turns out to be a lively but unlikely marriage of "'50s cheesecake meets Eskimo fake fur." Keeve shows us most stages of the production process and the related disasters and heightened anxi! eties that attend. He also gives us a big finish with a fly-on-the-wall look at the backstage mania that fuels those celebrity-packed rituals, where leggy supermodels walk dispassionately down long runways. Some of the best, bitchiest stuff is in the way the busy models deal with the presence of Keeve's cameras: Naomi Campbell comes across as a crab while Cindy Crawford could easily be anybody's swell, flirty pal. But we already knew that, didn't we? Shot mostly in black and white, with color stock reserved, quite wisely, for the climactic big show. --Tom KeoghThis book combines beautiful never-before-seen candid photos of intimate and memorable moments, stories, private and personal words of Anna Nicole Smith combined with new details about some of her deepest darkest secrets. Brought to you by her best friends Pol Atteu and Patrik Simpson. They insisted Anna, who always said I m gonna do it my way was a NOT-SO-DUMB BLONDE but in fact was a smart, shrewd woman who, ! although lacked a formal education, played the role of the dum! b blonde well it didn t play her. You will see Anna Nicole as funny, beautiful, sexy, and naughty, a wonderful mother, a true confidant, but most of all...a friend. Pol and Patrik were present at every aspect of her life and knew all her well-kept secrets too; was Larry Birkhead FAMILY ? Was Howard K. Stern her true love? What kind of a monster was Anna s mother, Virgie Arthur? Everyone knew Anna Nicole Smith. People wanted to touch her. They wanted to be with her. They wanted to be her. Anna was larger than life. It didn t matter if Jennifer Lopez walked through the door before her or Brad Pitt behind her. When Anna entered a room and turned her celebrity on, the crowds cheered. This book is to memorialize and celebrate Anna s life. We will always love and miss her. Not a day goes by that we don t think about her. She touched our lives and everyone else she ever knew. The world suffered a great loss when she died on February 8, 2007 and the enormous outpouring of grief made it clea! r that Anna Nicole Smith was more than just a celebrity...she was an icon.

Inspired by the true story of a legendary 25-foot man-eating crocodile comes the intense, terrifying horror movie PRIMEVAL, starring Dominic Purcell (TV's PRISON BREAK) and Orlando Jones (RUNAWAY JURY, EVOLUTION). An American news crew, determined to capture this voracious monster and stop his demonic rampage, travel deep within the darkest reaches of Africa to hunt their prey. But Gustave, as the natives call him, is also on the hunt â€" always on the move, always elusive, always hungry for human flesh! . Heart-pounding fear is nonstop in this edge-of-your-seat nail-biter about the cunning killer who continues to blaze his blood-soaked trail of terror.Who would have thought that Primeval, a movie about a giant man-eating crocodile, would turn out to be closer in spirit to Hotel Rwanda and Blood Diamond than to the average slasher-movie horror flick? Perhaps it doesn't aim at the social-issue heights of those more prestigious films, and the acting is uneven to say the least, but give this monster movie credit for trying to get in the smart, edgy vein of some of John Sayles's early scripts for Roger Corman. A cable-TV news crew travels to Burundi to capture footage of (and, if possible, just plain capture) the enormous crocodile that's been terrorizing the local landscape. Making things more complicated: the local landscape is also being terrorized by a civil war. The film does a clever job of weaving the two scourges together, and the script by John Br! ancato and Michael Ferris pays surprisingly explicit attention! to the way the West has been slow to acknowledge human-rights disasters in Africa, calling out Rwanda and Darfur by name. Now if only the characters were more than cardboard-thin; only Orlando Jones, doing the standard-issue wisecracking black sidekick, makes any particular impression. (Poor Jurgen Prochnow, glowering about in the Great White Hunter role--you'd think the guy who commanded Das Boot could knock off a giant reptile, no problem.) Pedestrian direction doesn't bring the human element to life, but give it up for a fine crocodile--his name is Gustave--who exists in a nifty, hungry computer-generated frenzy for most of his performance. And the script even provides Gustave some behavioral motivation that recalls the it's-not-their-fault-it's-man's-fault spirit of 1950s monster movies. Not a bad effort at all. --Robert Horton

The first collaboration CD from acoustic guitarist Michael Mandrell and multi-instrumentalist Benjy Wertheimer is a mythic instrumental journey. As a Yoga Meditations soundtrack, the album transports the listener into both the faraway lands of ancient India- through the soulful sounds of the esraj, tamboura and tabla- and the mystical Celtic landscape with lyrical splashes of acoustic guitar. From this timeless inner landscape, listeners are invited to travel into the spontaneous journey of the heart that is accessed through yoga and meditation.Sophomore solo album from the ex-Voodoo Queen. Packaged in die-cut digipak format. 4AD. 2003.Although Steve Gorn and Benjy Wertheimer had not yet met, they'd! been hearing about each other for nearly 20 years. Finally,in January of 2001, Krishna Das invited them both to Los Angeles to record on his CD, "Breath of the Heart." During breaks in the recording schedule, they instantly began to play together. Music without words...esraj and flute weaving the melodic contours of a raga...flute and tabla meeting in a spontaneous rhythmic dance. It was clearly the beginning of a deep and powerful musical relationship. The bond and mutual respect grew as they toured the Northwestin 2002-03, and culminated with this recording of Indian ragas, along with an original piece for esraj and clarinet. About The Ragas The musical form at the heart of traditional Indian classical music, the raga or (or "rag," in modern Hindi/Urdu) has its roots in the Sanskrit "ranj," which means "to color." It is sometimes said,"that which colors the mind is the raga." A raga defies simple definition. More than a scale, mode, tune or melody, it ! is a combination of elements-such as the modal structure, incl! uding th e ascending and descending movement; the emphasis or avoidance of certain notes; the characteristic movements and motifs (the heart of the raga); the time of day or season; and the moods of the raga. These improvisational pieces were recorded live in the studio. To honor the form, they were improvised within the specific musical structure of each raga. Rag Desh: Traditionally played at night, Rag Desh (which translates to "country") is also known as a rainy season raga. The primary moods expressed are devotion, romance and longing. Rag Madhuvanti: The word "madhu" means honey, and the sweetness of honey flows like a river through this raga. Rag Madhuvanti belongs to the group of late afternoon ragas, and was most likely created in the 1920s. The crimson colors of sunset and the coming evening give the raga an urgency and sense of longing. Unfolding slowly in "vilamFrom the acclaimed author of Imaginary Men comes an enchanting new novel about a! young woman with an uncanny ability to see deep into every heart but her own.

Lakshmi Sen was born with a magical ability to perceive the secret longings in others. Putting aside her own dreams to help run her widowed mother's struggling Seattle sari shop, Mystic Elegance, Lakshmi knows exactly how to bring happiness to customers -- from lonely immigrants to starry-eyed young brides. And to honor her father's dying wish, she has agreed to marry a respectable Indian doctor who will uphold her family's traditions.

But when a famous Indian actress chooses Mystic Elegance to provide her wedding trousseau, Lakshmi finds herself falling for the actress's sexy chauffeur -- all-American Nick Dunbar -- and her powers seem to desert her just as she needs them most. As Nick draws Lakshmi into his world, however, new dreams awaken in her, and she begins to uncover deeper, startling longings in her mother, her friends, her fiancé, and even herself. But choosing between N! ick and her fiancé seems an impossible task, like intuiting t! he very nature of true love. Is it instantly recognizable or does it need time to grow? And how can she possibly know for sure?

Media Type: DVDThe male reluctance to commit claims another victim in The Breakup Artist. Jim (Joseph Lyle Taylor, 100 Centre Street) flips through a shoebox full of photos of the women he's dumped as he bemoans his inability to commit. As he frets about breaking up with his current girlfriend, a professional cheerleader, he talks to a plastic statuette of the Infant of Prague on his dashboard. But when his best friend Teresa (Paula Devicq, Party of Five, Rescue Me) b! reaks up with her loutish fiance, Jim realizes she's the one woman he can't live without...and that, pretty much, is the entire plot of The Breakup Artist: About seventy minutes of self-flagellation mingled with brief moments of ogling and flirting (particularly with Jim's sexy new neighbor Mona, played by Sarita Choudhury, Mississippi Masala), followed by a moment of modest insight and (spoiler!) a happy resolution. The clumsy, overwritten dialogue and lifeless direction do not help. The ever-sprightly Sabrina Lloyd (Sports Night) brings some spark to her small role, while Regis Philbin (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire) makes an odd cameo and Ed Burns (The Brothers McMullen) literally walks on-screen for about ten seconds. --Bret Fetzer
